DC Department of Transportation Assists Inaugural with Flag Hanging, Traffic Light Removal, No Parking Signs, Cue Line and Street Closings and Repairs

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is coordinating security street closings and managing traffic for the 55th Presidential Inauguration, including for the inaugural ceremony and parade and the several balls. In addition, DDOT is performing road maintenance and other inaugural-related tasks:
  • Hang 1000 Flags: DDOT crews will install over 1000 US and DC flags on Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House, starting on Wednesday, January 19 at 7 pm until 6 am Thursday, January 20. The flags will be removed at the conclusion of the parade and be completed by 6 am Friday, January 21.
  • Remove Traffic Signals and Bollards: DDOT will remove 24 traffic signal poles and 57 safety bollards from all intersections on Pennsylvania Avenue between the Capitol and the White House. The work will start at 7 pm Wednesday, January 19 and end by 6 am Thursday, January 20. Re-installation is to be completed by 4 am Friday, January 21.
  • Put Up 10,000 No Parking Signs: DDOT is producing and installing some 10,000 “Emergency No Parking Anytime” signs for the parade route and inaugural balls. Production started on Tuesday, January 11, and installation started at 5 pm on Friday, January 14. Monitoring and replacement continues throughout the event with removal to be completed by Saturday, January 22.
  • Paint Blue Cue Line: DDOT painted approximately 8,000 feet of blue pedestrian cue lines from 4th Street to 17th Street on Pennsylvania Avenue along the parade route. This is to assist the military and other parade participants to march in straight lines.
  • Repair Roads and Sidewalks: DDOT has repaired the streets and sidewalks along the parade route, including filling potholes, replacing bricks and leveling manhole covers.
DDOT is working with the US Secret Service, the Armed Forces Presidential Inaugural Committee, the Metropolitan Police Department, the DC Presidential Inaugural Committee led by the DC Emergency Management Agency and other federal and District agencies on the Inauguration.
