Starting this week for about a month, traffic will be restricted on the Suitland Parkway, SE, in order to replace the Southern Ave. Bridge over the Parkway. Depending on the progress of construction, lane closures will limit traffic in both directions, Monday-Sunday, in non-rush hour (9:30am to 3:30pm, and 7:30pm to 5:30am). There will also be occasional complete nighttime closures, from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am, with traffic detoured around the construction site.
This is the first phase of a two-year, $8 million project; half the bridge is being replaced while the other half is kept open to traffic. The contractor is Shirley Contracting Company, LLC.
