(Washington, D.C.) The D.C. Department of Transportation (DDOT) is distributing Transportation Tips During an Emergency Incident to D.C. households this Sunday. This user-friendly pamphlet contains information on evacuation routes and sheltering-in-place as well as specific emergency telephone numbers, web addresses and radio frequencies.
“We certainly hope that anything like 9/11 never happens again; but if it does this pamphlet is a key part of helping all residents, visitors and businesses in the District know how to move around the region in an emergency,” said Dan Tangherlini, Director of Transportation.
The six-page pamphlet features an explanation of the evacuation routes, including a map and pictures of the street signs directing motorists to Virginia and Maryland, a directory of websites and phone numbers, information on radio broadcasts via both Highway Advisory Radio and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and a list of bike trails that can be used by cyclists or pedestrians.
The pamphlet will be distributed in the District in this Sunday’s Washington Post and via the U.S Postal Service for non-Post subscribers. Libraries and schools are also receiving copies. For bulk distribution, contact: Natalie Jones, at: Natalie.Jones@dc.gov.
