(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation announces nightly closings of Suitland Parkway, between Alabama Avenue and Naylor Road, SE, from 8 pm to 4 am, starting on Sunday night, September 18, except for Friday and Saturday nights. The closing will last through Wednesday night, September 28, if required by the progress of the work.
 
Westbound Suitland Parkway traffic will be detoured onto Naylor Road around the work area; eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Alabama Avenue then back to Naylor Road. Message boards have been placed on Suitland Parkway and detour signs along the route.
 
The Parkway carries about 35,000 vehicles every weekday. The closures is for the construction of the new Southern Avenue Bridge over the Parkway.
