(Washington, DC) On Saturday at 11 am, Dan Tangherlini, Director of the District Department of Transportation, and Councilmember Marion Barry (Ward 8) will cut-the-ribbon to celebrate the reconstruction and beautification of Elvans Road in Southeast Washington.
What: Ribbon-cutting ceremony and community celebration of the reconstruction of a formerly deteriorated transportation infrastructure, Elvans Road.
Who: Dan Tangherlini, Director, District Department of Transportation, Councilmember Marion Barry, and other community leaders
When: 11 am, Saturday July 23
Where: Elvans and Stanton Roads, SE
The reconstructed Elvans Road has new pavement (30 foot wide), sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and handicapped ramps on both sides of the entire road. The street also boasts an updated lighting system and state-of-the-art water drainage system. Prior to its revitalization, Elvans Road was a narrow roadway with minimal amenities. The asphalt had deteriorated over time, and there was poor drainage and outdated street lighting.
Elvans Road is, and has been, a focused effort of a full range of District government agencies, as it has been identified by Mayor Anthony Williams as being a "Hot Spot."
