Storm Update: Traffic Signals and Trees

(Washington, DC) This weekend’s sudden summer storm knocked out traffic signals and brought down trees and branches in the District. For signals that are still dark or flashing red, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) reminds drivers to treat the signal as an all-way stop sign, coming to a full stop before entering the nearest crosswalk at the intersection, then slowly taking turns to cross the intersection.

DDOT and Department of Public Works (DPW) crews are working to clear our streets, alleys and sidewalks of tree debris. Residents may place this debris at the curb for pickup, without blocking sidewalks and roadways. Larger limbs should be cut down to a manageable size before they are removed. Residents are asked to be patient as DDOT and DPW crews continue this post-storm work.
