(Washington, DC) Michelle L. Pourciau, Acting Director of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), is pleased to announce that DDOT has received an additional $11.5 million in federal funding to be spent on federally eligible transportation projects across the District of Columbia.
The amount is the largest such allocation in DDOT history—and a 40 percent increase from the amount DDOT received in the same federal disbursement last year.
Near the end of each fiscal year, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) makes supplemental disbursements of its remaining funds to eligible states. DDOT received $6.9 million in additional funds last year and in 2004 DDOT received no such funding. DDOT’s baseline federal funding for Fiscal Year 2006 is $113.5 million.
“This is terrific news for DDOT, the residents of the District of Columbia and for our visitors as well,” said Pourciau. “Our goal at DDOT is to provide safe transit and safe roads across the nation’s capital—and this funding will help enable DDOT to further meet this objective.”
These funds were marked by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as “Redistribution of Fiscal Year 2006 Obligation Authority” and were part of an annual pool of funds marked as unspent by other states. The District received more than some other states including Alaska, Delaware and Maine. FHWA redistributed a total of $2.1 billion to states as part of its FY 2006 redistribution.
