Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Council today unanimously confirmed Michelle L. Pourciau as Director of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). Michelle Pourciau was appointed acting Director of DDOT in February 2006 by Mayor Anthony A. Williams. Michelle has 20-plus years of transportation experience in the District and the region - first with the District Department of Public Works and over the last six years as Deputy Director of DDOT.

"This is an exciting day for me personally and for DDOT," said Pourciau. "DDOT is a hardworking agency - made up of employees with an abundance of talent, ideas, passion and skills. Every day I am proud to walk in the door at DDOT, and heading up the DDOT 'team' makes me proud to be a public servant. Our employees share a common vision for making the District a leader in transportation nationwide and a safer city for residents and visitors alike. I deeply appreciate Mayor Williams' confidence in me and look forward to continuing our efforts here at DDOT."

Michelle Pourciau has managed transportation planning and policy for federal programs on local, regional and national issues. Among her top achievements Michelle counts the successful negotiation of the Georgetown Project agreement, which facilitated an award-winning, multi-agency, public-private construction project. She facilitated the Mayor's Downtown Congestion Management Task Force and currently serves as second vice-chair of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board. Michelle is a member of several Boards and Commissions, including the Board of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Northeast Association of Transportation Officials (NASTO).

Michelle received a Master's Degree with honors from Howard University's School of City and Regional Planning and has a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan. She completed studies at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government in its Executive Training Program. She also has advanced training in Management and Transportation Engineering and is a Certified Public Manager.

Michelle is a wife and a mother, and is active in civic, professional and social organizations. She lives in Ward 4.
