(Washington, DC) On December 2, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will meet to engage local residents, merchants, property owners, and others to develop a design for Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue from the Anacostia Metro Station to the 11th Street Bridges, including portions of Good Hope Road, Howard Road, and W Street, SE.
The workshop is a hands-on event where participants will help draw ideas for the corridor. Topic areas include streetscape materials, design, and historic character; transportation needs for pedestrians, bicycles, transit and vehicles; parking and utilities; and construction. Residents and stakeholders of all ages are invited to attend. The workshop will help guide the design for an $8 million streetscape improvement to begin construction in 2007.
The workshop is part of Mayor Williams’ Great Streets Initiative to redesign important commercial corridors in the District to support local merchants and retailers, strengthen and diversify retail districts, and improve safety, mobility, and livability for adjacent communities.
