(Washington, DC) The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), with the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), is currently 16 months into a three year study of the 14th Street Bridge corridor in Washington, DC and Arlington County, Virginia.
The purpose of this study is to identify actions that can reduce congestion, enhance safety, and improve traffic operations in the 14th Street Bridge corridor.
FHWA will hold the third round of public meetings for the project in October. The purpose of the meetings will be to present ways of making the existing corridor work more efficiently including enhancing pedestrian and bicyclist connection and crossings, reworking interchanges and lane assignments, improving merged areas and traffic signing, expanding HOV and bus lanes, expanding breakdown lanes, and managing the number of cars crossing the river during rush hour.
The project team will also be asking the public for congestion and safety solutions and ideas as the team looks to create alternatives and complete the required environmental and traffic impact studies this fall and winter.
The meetings will be held October 9 at the Aurora Hills Community Center in Arlington and October 10 at Amidon Elementary School in Southwest Washington, DC.
The program will begin at 6:30 PM with and Open House followed by a presentation and continued Open House from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM. The agenda for each date will be the same.
