WASHINGTON, DC — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced the final public meeting inviting public comment on the recently released final draft of the District of Columbia Pedestrian Master Plan. The plan is a culmination of 18 months worth of study that examined all aspects of the District’s pedestrian environment, from policies to design guidelines to specific safety improvements in the city’s highest pedestrian crash corridors.
The Plan has two primary goals:
- To reduce the number of pedestrians killed and injured in crashes with motor vehicles; and
- To increase pedestrian activity by making walking a comfortable and accessible mode of travel throughout all parts of the District.
The Pedestrian Master Plan is scheduled to be implemented over 10 years at a total cost of over $18 million. The policies and design standards that are established and/or recommended in the Plan are intended to improve the safety and walkability of the pedestrian environment in the District.
