DDOT Announces Valet Parking Permit Meetings for Applicants

Media Contact:  John Lisle at (202) 671-2004

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced today that it has scheduled several meetings to assist interested businesses in complying with the newly published Valet Parking Regulations*. The meetings are designed as working meetings for businesses that currently provide valet parking for their patrons. The meetings will include both presentations on the regulatory requirements, step-by-step instructions for applying for a valet parking permit, and an outline and timeline of the permitting process. DDOT staff will be on hand at the meetings to work one-on-one with businesses to complete valet parking permit applications.

The first meeting will be held on Monday, July 13, at 3 pm, in 1250 H Street, NW Suite 1000, the Downtown BID Conference Room. The second meeting will be held on Monday, July 20, at 3 pm, in 1120 Connecticut Avenue, NW Suite 260, the Golden Triangle BID Conference Room

This meeting is to assist potential applicants for valet parking permits with understanding the new regulatory requirements and the application process. Given time and staff limitations the meeting will not address general information or questions other than those from applicants. Initial applications will be processed by the District Department of Transportation Public Space Policy Branch and not at the Public Space Permit Office. The Policy Branch can be reached at (202) 671-2333.

The regulations, finalized and published in the DC Register on June 26, 2009, ensure that all establishments using public space to provide valet parking services for their customers are operating in a safe and uniform manner. Establishments providing valet parking services are required to obtain a public space permit, hire a licensed valet company, park vehicles in a private facility, and obey all relevant traffic regulations. Once a permit is issued the District will post signs specifying when  the curbside space is reserved for  use as a valet staging area.

To apply for a permit a business must:

  • Complete a Valet Parking Permit Application;
  • Provide photographs of the public space for the valet staging area, where the pick up and drop off of vehicles will occur; and
  • Draft a Traffic Flow Plan that shows how the vehicles will travel between the staging area and the off-street parking facility

For more information on these meetings or on the regulations please contact Alice Kelly at (202) 671-2252.
