DDOT and Councilmember Jim Graham to Host Public Meeting on Sherman Avenue Streetscape Project
Preliminary Design Plans will be Presented Tuesday, July 14th

Media Contact:  John Lisle at (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Ward One Councilmember Jim Graham will host an informational meeting on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, to update the public on the major streetscape improvements planned along Sherman Avenue, between Park Road and Florida Avenue.

The Sherman Avenue corridor is primarily a residential neighborhood, but that is not reflected in the current layout of the roadway. For that reason, DDOT is in the process of developing a construction plan to:

  • Reduce the number of vehicular lanes in both directions.
  • Improve pedestrian safety by widening the sidewalks to make them ADA compliant, and upgrade the wheelchair ramps and crosswalk markings.
  • Make Sherman Avenue more attractive by planning trees and shrubs along the corridor, upgrade street lights and upgrade traffic signals.

More information about the Sherman Avenue Project is available online at www.ddot.dc.gov.

At the July 14 meeting, the project engineers will present the 30% design plans and solicit feedback and comments from the community.
