DDOT is currently accepting applications for the 2009 Howard University Summer Transportation Institute (STI). This is a four week course for high school students that will be held from June 22 to July 17, 2009.
The curriculum includes a range of activities: working on computers, engineering projects, field trips, recreational activities and personal development. Site visits will include: the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the Port of Baltimore, the National Aquarium and many other exciting places. Computer workshops on topics like web page design and development, as well as recreational activities, are also included in the program.
The purpose of the program is to teach young men and women about careers in transportation and other fields within engineering, while also giving them an opportunity to participate in workshops on issues common to all young people: peer pressure, self esteem and conflict resolution.
This program is funded by the US Department of Transportation and the District Department of Transportation. Participants are therefore not required to pay any fees.
