(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announces that the northbound left lane of Anacostia Freeway (I-295) Bridge, over Malcolm X Avenue, in Southeast, will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, October 30 and 31, between the hours of 9:30 am and 3:30 pm. The lane closure will take place in the bridge area only. This work is part of the previously announced project to restore the northbound and southbound Anacostia Freeway Bridges.
DDOT will maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction, during both the morning rush hour (6:30 am to 9:00 am) and the evening rush hour (3:30 pm to 6:30 pm).
The $5 million restoration of the Anacostia Freeway Bridges uses a combination of federal and local funds. The first stage of the rehabilitation includes reconstruction of abutments and decks on the interior (median) side of the bridges followed by reconstruction of the outer portions.
This project is slated to be completed in about nine months; weather permitting. DDOT will continue to update the public on the progress of the project. Hours of work are Monday through Saturday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
DDOT encourages motorists to use extreme caution when passing through the work zone.
