(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises motorists, residents and visitors that reconstruction of P Street, NW, between Dupont Circle and 22nd Street is scheduled to begin the week of January 8, 2007, with a scheduled completion in April 2008, weather permitting.
The $3.5 million project uses a combination of federal and local funds. DDOT has been engaging local residents, businesses and other stakeholders leading up to the project.
Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will remain open in both directions throughout construction. Access will remain to residences, businesses, alleys and driveways. In addition, DDOT will restrict construction to one block at a time in order to minimize disruption to residents and businesses.
Work will include total reconstruction of the roadway and sidewalks. The new streetscape will include brick sidewalks and historic “Washington Globe” lights. In addition, DDOT will roughly double the number of street trees within the project limits.
DDOT reminds motorists to use caution when traveling through the work zone.
