Road Upgrades and Streetscape Work Set to Launch on Q Street, NW, Near Logan Circle

Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises motorists, residents and visitors that reconstruction of Q Street, NW, between 11th and 14th streets, is slated to begin the week of February 12, 2007—with a scheduled completion in November 2007, weather permitting.

DDOT has been engaging local residents and other stakeholders in preparation for the $2.6 million project, which utilizes a combination of federal and local funds. In engaging residents, DDOT met with the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission to brief the ANC on the scope of the project.

Work will include total reconstruction of the roadway and sidewalks. The new streetscape will include brick sidewalks, historic “Washington Globe” streetlights and reconstruction of existing tree boxes.

In addition, DDOT is partnering with PEPCO to upgrade underground electric lines concurrently with the roadway improvements. This work plan aims to reduce the overall construction duration by up to nine months.

Q Street is a one-way eastbound street. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will remain open throughout construction. Currently there is parking on both sides of Q Street between 11th and 14th streets—but during construction, parking will be limited. Drivers should be alerted to changing traffic patterns in this area for the duration of the project. Access will be permitted at all times to residences, businesses, alleys and driveways.

As always, DDOT reminds motorists to use caution when traveling through the work zone—and minor delays are possible during construction.
