Street Closings and Parking Restrictions in Effect for National Marathon

This is to advise the public that the National Marathon will be held in the District on Saturday, March 24, 2007. To facilitate this event, parking and vehicular traffic restrictions will be in effect on certain roadways. The race is scheduled to begin at approximately 7 am.

All streets affected by the National Marathon are expected to be reopened at approximately 2 pm depending on prevailing conditions.

The route of the marathon is as follows:

The marathon will form in front of RFK Stadium for the start of the race and proceed:

  • The route is west on East Capitol Street, NE, around Lincoln Circle ( south side), continue west on East Capitol Street, NE, south on 2nd Street, NE, west on Independence Avenue, NE, north on 3rd Street, NW, west on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, through the west crossover west on Constitution Avenue, NW, northwest on Virginia Avenue, NW, then turn around on Virginia Avenue at E Street, NW, southeast on Virginia Avenue, NW, east on Constitution Avenue, NW, south on 7th Street, NW, southeast on Maine Avenue, SW, east on M Street, SW, north on 8th Street, SE, east on I Street, SE, north on 11th Street, SE, southeast on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, south on Fairlawn Avenue, SE, west on Nicholson Street, SE, (entering Anacostia Park) SE.
     
  • South through Anacostia Park, SE, exit Anacostia Park, SE, onto South Capitol Street, SE, north on South Capitol Street, SE, west on M Street, SE, northwest on Maine Avenue, SW, north on 9th Street, SW, west on Constitution Avenue, NW, south on Henry Bacon Drive, around north the side of the Lincoln Memorial and enter Rock Creek Parkway, NW, north on Rock Creek Parkway, NW, north on 24th Street, NW, east on Calvert Street, NW, northeast on Columbia Road, NW, east on Harvard Street, NW, east on  Michigan Avenue, NW, south on North Capitol Street, NW, east on K Street, NE, south on 4th Street, NE, east on H Street, NE, south on 13th Street, NE, east on D Street, NE, south on 18th Street, NE, east on C Street, NE, and finish in front of RFK Stadium.

There will be only 5 streets that will allow access/egress to the interior of the National Marathon route:

  • E Street Expressway (over The Roosevelt Bridge)
  • K Street, NW (East and West through Georgetown)
  • Massachusetts  Avenue, NW (Over Rock Creek Parkway)
  • Rhode Island Avenue, NW (Across  North Capitol Street)
  • New York Avenue, NW (Across North Capitol Street)
