DDOT Announces Work Update on P Street, NW, in Dupont Circle
Extensive Streetscape Project Proceeding on Schedule

Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises motorists, residents and visitors that on or around Saturday, April 21, 2007 the traffic pattern on P Street, NW, between 21st and 22nd Streets, NW, will shift.

The new pattern will have westbound traffic flow on the north curb lane and eastbound traffic flow on the south curb lane. The work zone will be in the center two lanes.

The new sidewalk and curb lane on the north side of the 2100 block of P Street is complete and work will shift to reconstructing the center lanes.

This $3.5 million “streetscape” project uses a combination of federal and local funds. DDOT has been engaging local residents, businesses and other stakeholders during the project.

Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will remain open in both directions throughout construction. Access will remain to residences, businesses, alleys and driveways. In addition, DDOT will restrict construction to one block at a time to minimize disruption to residents and businesses.

Project summary:  Work will include total reconstruction of the roadway and sidewalks.

The new streetscape will include brick sidewalks and historic “Washington Globe” lights. In addition DDOT will roughly double the number of street trees within the project limits.

Work on the project began in January 2007 and is scheduled to wrap up in January 2008.

DDOT reminds motorists to use caution when traveling through the work zone and to expect minor delays.
