DDOT Announces 9th Street Tunnel Closed for Resurfacing on Weekend of June 8

Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises residents and motorists that the 9th Street Tunnel downtown will be closed to traffic from 7:30 pm on Friday, June 8 to 5 am Monday, June 11.

The closure is to enable DDOT to carry out resurfacing work inside the tunnel. The work is weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to use the following detours:

  • 7th Street to L’Enfant, SW Waterfront, and I-395 northbound
  • 14th Street and 15th Street to I-395 southbound

DDOT expects this weekend closure to have minimal impact on vehicular traffic, and the tunnel is slated to be re-opened by 5 am on Monday June 11 for the morning rush hours.

DDOT appreciates the patience of motorists and residents during the work.
