(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises residents and motorists that night work is scheduled to take place on the Connecticut Avenue Bridge between Macomb Street and Devonshire Place on July 2, 2007.
Workers will be placing a concrete bridge deck beginning at 11 pm with work scheduled to be completed by 6:30 am The work is being performed at night to ensure quality control of the concrete placement. One lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions during the night work.
The $9 million restoration of the Connecticut Avenue Bridge, which is proceeding on schedule, uses a combination of federal and local funds. The initial stages of the rehabilitation included work on the under-belly of the bridge, work on the sidewalks over the bridge and repairs to the road surface. Work on the bridge will include removal of old lead-based paint, cleaning the bridge girders, repairing/replacing components of the under girding and bridge surface and rehabilitation to sidewalks and road surface.
Weather permitting, the project is slated to be completed in April 2008.
DDOT will continue to update the public on the progress of the project. Normal hours of work are Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm DDOT thanks residents and motorists for their patience during necessary night work.
