(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is pleased to announce it has completed road resurfacing at the intersection of Macomb Street and Connecticut Avenue nine days ahead of schedule. The service road along Connecticut Avenue is slated to open tonight following evening rush hour.
The location of the work was at the entrance to the service road that runs parallel to the northbound side of Connecticut Avenue just north of Macomb Street.
"I want to personally thank the businesses on this portion of Connecticut Avenue for their patience during these important upgrades," said Emeka Moneme, DDOT Director. "This work, related to the Connecticut Avenue Bridge project, went very well, and work on the bridge is ongoing."
The work—part of DDOT's extensive rehabilitation to the nearby Connecticut Avenue Bridge—entailed milling and resurfacing road in this small area at Macomb Street. The project was originally slated to be completed by September 30.
Background: The $9 million restoration of the Connecticut Avenue Bridge, which is proceeding on schedule, uses a combination of federal and local funds.
Weather permitting the project is slated to be completed in April 2008. DDOT will continue to update the public on the progress of the project. Hours of work are Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm.
DDOT reminds motorists to use extreme caution when passing through the work zone.
The average daily traffic count on the bridge is 38,000 vehicles, northbound and southbound combined.
