New Traffic Signals Installed on South Capitol Street, SE
Signals Set for Full Operation Tuesday, January 22

Contact (Media Only): Karyn Le Blanc 202-671-3490

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is pleased to announce the installation of two new traffic signals on South Capitol Street, SE - one at the intersection at O Street and one at the intersection at P Street.

Both signals went into “flash” mode last Tuesday to alert motorists and pedestrians of their imminent arrival. The signals are scheduled to move into full-color operation mode on or about Tuesday, January 22, 2008. The new signals will enhance pedestrian safety and will be coordinated with neighboring signals. The new signals will also allow intersecting traffic to navigate safely.

The signals are part of the ongoing streetscape and South Capitol gateway corridor improvements that began with the “Extreme Makeover” of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in the summer of 2007.
