(Washington, DC) The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announce the following road closures and general restriction information with regard to the visit by Pope Benedict XVI. The pope is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, April 15th during afternoon rush hour and depart on Friday, April 18th in the morning.
Due to security and safety restrictions, the following roads are scheduled to be closed during the specified times. All routes and emergency no parking signs will be posted. Signs will be placed along the I295 corridor to alert residents to the closure of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge on April 17. Motorists will be detoured to the 11th Street bridges via VMS and detour signs. DDOT Road Operation Patrols will patrol the corridor in an effort to expeditiously respond to incidents that might further impact traffic.

8 pm Monday, April 14 through 5 pm Wednesday, April 16
- No parking on Pennsylvania Avenue between 17th and 26th Streets, NW
- No parking on Massachusetts Avenue from Waterside Drive to 34th Street
5 pm on Tuesday, April 15 through 9 am Friday, April 18
- No truck traffic will be allowed on Massachusetts Avenue from Wisconsin Avenue to Observatory Circle
- Massachusetts Avenue from Observatory Circle to 34th Street will be one lane in each direction
