Kenilworth Avenue Northbound Lane Closures & Alternative Routes to Maryland
Map: Kenilworth Avenue Northbound Lane Closures and Alternative Routes to Maryland
The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) is scheduled to replace the surface of I-295 (Kenilworth Avenue) at Burroughs Avenue, NE. The work will be conducted beginning at 8 pm on Friday, October 31, 2008 and is scheduled to be completed by midnight, Sunday, November 2nd, weather permitting. Due to the nature of the work temporary lane closures are necessary.

The two right-hand lanes of northbound I-295 will be closed just prior to the bridge over Burroughs Avenue. All northbound traffic will be shifted into a single lane and motorists will need to stay to the left to get though the work zone.

The exit to Kenilworth Avenue at the Burroughs Avenue/Minnesota Avenue exit will remain open to vehicles. Two southbound lanes will also remain open during the construction.

Traffic delays and back-ups are anticipated until the pavement work is completed, and motorists are advised to consider alternate routes through the area. These routes can be viewed on the map below. If you are unable to read the map the information will also be available on the DDOT website at www.ddot.dc.gov.

Alternate outbound routes to I-495 (Beltway) and beyond include:

  • I-395 to 50 East (New York Avenue)
  • Whitney Young Memorial Bridge/East Capitol Street/Central Avenue
  • Sousa Bridge/Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast
