The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising residents and motorists to expect temporary lane closures on I-395 (Southwest Freeway) over the next two months. The lane closures are necessary for the rehabilitation of the 9th Street, SW Bridge over the Freeway.
The bridge work will be conducted Monday through Friday, beginning on Monday, March 2 and concluding on or about Thursday, April 30. It will require the closure of a single lane on I-395 under the 9th Street Bridge from 10 am to 3 pm each weekday. The lane closure will be on either the northbound or southbound side depending on the needs of the contractor.
Additional lane closures will occur from 8 pm to 5 am each night on either the northbound or southbound side of the roadway.
Variable message signs will be in place to alert motorists and direct them around the lane closures, but traffic delays are possible and drivers should use caution when traveling through the work zones.
We apologize for any inconvenience. DDOT is in the process of completely rehabilitating both the 9th and 10th Street, SW Bridges. This is a year long project that began last November.
