Motorists advised to expect heavy traffic downtown

Media Contact:  John Lisle at (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising motorists to expect heavy traffic and possible delays downtown tonight. Two significant special events will take place: the Washington Capitals playoff hockey game at the Verizon Center and the annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

The game is scheduled to start at 7 pm and the vigil begins at 8 pm. Both events are expected to draw large crowds.  Participants are encouraged to use public transportation. The Verizon Center is located above the Gallery Place – Chinatown Metro Station on the Red, Green and Yellow lines, and the Law Enforcement Memorial is directly above the Judiciary Square station on the Red line. Take the F Street exit.

F and E Streets, NW will be closed to vehicular traffic this evening, between 3rd and 5th Streets, for the Candlelight Vigil. In addition, there will be heavy pedestrian traffic and motorists are reminded to use caution when traveling through the area.
