(Washington, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising residents, workers and visitors that the following special events scheduled for this weekend could impact traffic in the District.
Howard University Homecoming Parade
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has provided the following information about this event, which will be held from 10 am to 12 pm on Saturday, October 24.
To facilitate this event, vehicular traffic restrictions will be imposed. To avoid delays, motorists should avoid the parade route and intersecting streets.
The parade will begin on 6th Street, NW on the Howard University campus and proceed along the following route:
- Northbound on 6th Street, NW
- Westbound on Fairmont Street, NW
- Southbound on Georgia Avenue, NW
- Northeast bound on Florida Avenue, NW
- Northbound on 5th Street, NW
- Eastbound on T Street, NW
- Northbound on 3rd Street, NW
- Eastbound on Elm Street, NW
- Northbound on 2nd Street, NW
- Westbound on Bryant Street, NW
- Northbound on 4th Street, NW to the “Valley” where they will disband.
Race & Festival for World Peace
This event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 24, from 9 am to 2 pm.
The following streets will be closed for the festival from 3 am to 5 pm:
- 21st Street, NW between I Street and Pennsylvania Avenue
- Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between 20st and 21th Streets
- I Street, NW between 20th and 22nd Streets
In addition, there will be rolling closures along the race route:
- Start Point : I and 21st Streets, NW
- Right on 19th Street, NW
- Right on Constitution Avenue, NW
- Right on 21st Street, NW
- Left on Virginia Avenue, NW
- Right at F Street, NW
- Right at 21st Street, NW
- Left on E Street, NW
- Right on 20th Street, NW
- Right on Virginia Avenue, NW
- Left on 21st Street, NW
- Left on Constitution Avenue, NW
- Left on 19th Street, NW (heading north)
- Left on I Street, NW
- Left on 20th Street, NW
- Right on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
- Finish Point: intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue & 21st Street, NW
Marine Corps Marathon
As previously announced, the marathon will be run this Sunday, October 25. The race begins at 8 am in Arlington, Virginia, and then crosses the Potomac River into the District. The Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Park Police will close numerous streets along the race route in the District between 4 am and 1:30 pm.

Police will reopen the roadways as soon as possible provided doing so does not interfere with the race.
Motorists traveling in the area of this event may experience traffic delays. Race participants and spectators are encouraged to use public transportation*. Metrorail will begin service at 5 am on Sunday.
