(Washington, DC) With National Park Service reconstruction of Beach Drive from Joyce Road to Broad Branch Road expected to continue throughout this week, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising motorists of alternate routes. For traffic heading south from Maryland, use Connecticut Avenue or 16th Street to downtown. Traffic signals will be modified for extended rush hour timing.

For commuters crossing Rock Creek Park, DDOT advises as an alternate to Military Road using the following routes during the reconstruction period:

• Wise Road/Chestnut Street to Western Avenue
• Sherrill Drive, Beach Drive to Bingham Drive and Nebraska Avenue
• Blagden Road to West Beach Drive to Tilden Street

Also, be advised that 27th Street remains closed between Broad Branch Road and Military Road due to reconstruction work. Local resident traffic will be permitted to enter from Military Road.
