All lanes have reopened to traffic on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, following a vehicle collision during a routine bridge opening this afternoon.
At approximately 1:30 pm this afternoon (12/22), there was a routine bridge opening on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, in which a vehicle collided with the raised draw span or bascule.
The draw span remained open, with traffic stopped in both directions, while emergency crews responded to the incident. The driver was taken from the scene by ambulance and the vehicle was removed. The District Department of Transportation, who is responsible for operating bridge openings, had crews on the scene to ensure that the draw span could safely close and had not been damaged. By 2:30 pm, all lanes on the Wilson Bridge were reopened to traffic.
