(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is pleased to announce upcoming bridge work in Southeast on I-295 over Malcolm X Avenue.
The $4 million project—using a combination of federal and local funds—will feature construction of new reinforced concrete deck slabs and other major structural and roadway work on the northbound and southbound I-295 bridges that run over Malcolm X Avenue.
Roadway work will include reconstruction of the entrance ramp over South Capitol Street, pavement milling and overlay. The traffic signal system at Malcolm X Avenue at South Capitol Street will also be modified.
Construction is scheduled to begin on or about October 16, 2006 and is slated to be completed in June 2007.
Hours of work will be between 7 am and 7 pm Monday through Friday. Overnight and weekend work is possible. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on I-295 in both directions—northbound and southbound—at all times.
Signage will be posted on site to alert motorists of the upcoming work. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution when traveling through the work zone.
