(Washington, DC) Be advised that ramps 19 and 20 off Interstate I-295 (northbound) will be closed beginning Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 7 am as part of previously announced bridge work in Southeast on I-295 over Malcolm X Avenue.
These two ramps (Ramps 19 and 20) will not re-open until the first phase of rehabilitation work on the Anacostia Freeway (I-295) bridges over Malcolm X Avenue, SE, is completed. The first phase is slated to be completed in February 2007. An alternative route for motorists will be Exit One off of I-295 (northbound).
The $4 million project — using a combination of federal and local funds — will feature construction of new reinforced concrete deck slabs and other major structural work on the northbound and southbound I-295 Bridges over Malcolm X Avenue.
Roadway work will include reconstruction of the entrance ramp over South Capitol Street, pavement milling and overlay. The traffic signal system at Malcolm X Avenue at South Capitol Street will also be modified.
The full project is slated to be completed in June 2007.
