Lead Safe Washington: Promoting Healthy Homes

(Washington, DC) The DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) announces the availability of grants up to $17,500 and technical assistance to owners of residential properties built before 1978, to pay for lead-based paint related repairs through its Lead Safe Washington Program. The purpose of the grants is to create lead safe, affordable housing for low-to-moderate income families with children under six years of age. Childhood lead poisoning is a major environmental health problem that can affect children living in homes built before 1978.

The grants may be used to reduce or eliminate lead-based paint hazards in residential property (owner-occupied or rental) if:

  • It contains paint that is loose, flaking, peeling, cracking, chipped, or otherwise deteriorated; and
  • Is occupied by low-to-moderate income families.

For more information, contact DHCD's, Lead Safe Washington Program at (202) 442-7180 or email us at Lead Safe Washington.

The Lead Safe Washington Program is made available by funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, Office of Healthy Homes & Lead Hazard Control.
