Washington, DC) - The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), working with Beechwood, LLC, a Washington, DC-based provider of systems-built homes, and the Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL), assisted with the purchase of the first public/private partnership of a system-built home in the District. The groundbreaking for this home was held Thursday, August 3.
DHCD assisted with the purchase of this home through its Home Purchase Assistance Program (HPAP). A systems-built (modular) house is stick-built, except that the majority of the house is completed off-site at a factory. Systems-built homes can be completed more quickly than traditionally built homes (approximately 120 days) and at a lower cost.
“DHCD is pleased to be able to provide funding under HPAP to participate in this creative and cost-efficient way to bring housing opportunities to the District,” said Jalal Greene, DHCD Director. “We value our partnership with the GWUL and Beechwood, and we applaud both groups for their efforts in providing affordable housing options for District residents.”
