The District of Columbia Insurance and Securities (DISR) Fraud Bureau will hold a conference for insurance fraud investigators and insurance claim professionals on Wednesday, October 29, 2003. The all-day conference will be held at the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) Conference Center located at 101 Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC. This conference is designed for local SIU (special investigative unit) personnel and will be an informative presentation regarding the current activities and initiatives of DC's Insurance and Securities Fraud Bureau. Highlights of this year's Conference include:
- A presentation of DISR's regulatory compliance procedures including the new mandatory annual reporting requirement and a new misdemeanor fraud statute planned for FY 2004.
- A local United States Attorney office representative will talk about prosecution thresholds and case submission criteria.
- A senior special agent from the FBI will discuss insurance fraud cases and how they are handling them.
- DISR's Fraud Bureau Investigation Manager will speak and be available to discuss fraud case submission criteria and answer questions on the protocols to report fraud for criminal prosecution.
- An opportunity to network with several leading federal law enforcement agents who specialize in insurance fraud cases
Participants will leave with practical information, helpful tips, and clarification regarding working with the Insurance and Securities Fraud Bureau of the District of Columbia and affiliated District agencies, including the Office of the Corporation Counsel and the Metropolitan Police Department. A representative from the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud will also be on hand and to share information about the resources and information the organization provides.
