District Seniors Invited to Mortgage Presentation in Ward 7

Are you interested in knowing everything about reverse mortgages? How can you prevent your home from going into foreclosure? Thinking of selling your home? Then join the DC Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB) and nonprofit Manna Mortgage Inc., which will lead a discussion on mortgages, including homestead deductions, property tax assessments and senior citizen or disabled property owner applications. DISB will also have insurance and securities experts on hand for your difficult questions.

DISB and Manna Mortgage will host two mortgage presentations at the Washington Senior Wellness Center in Ward 7 on May 23 and 24, from 11:30 am to 1 pm. According to the Urban Institute, a research and policy analysis think tank in Washington, DC, about 5 percent of the mortgages in the District are subprime and are especially concentrated in Wards 5, 7 and 8. DISB believes that by educating seniors and others about common mortgage issues, we can help you defend yourself against unscrupulous lending practices. Call (202) 727-8000 for more information. DISB will be hosting other mortgage and other financial-education seminars throughout the year, starting June 6 at DISB’s office at 810 First Street, NE, Suite 701. Check DISB’s website for topic updates.
