The DC Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB), the DC Department of Health (DOH) and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) are pleased to announce today the launch of the District government’s first health insurance website, healthinsurance.dc.gov.
“We’re proud to be part of the city’s first one-stop website that provides the most comprehensive information on health insurance in the District,” said DISB Commissioner Thomas E. Hampton. “This portal will reduce the amount of guess work around the health coverage you qualify for, or what insurance plan makes the most sense to you and your family. District residents should take advantage of this Internet portal during the city’s first Health Insurance Awareness Month, which we’re hoping will bring more awareness about the various health coverage options to District consumers.”
The website, which may also be accessed through the District government’s main page at dc.gov, provides wide-ranging information on both private insurance and public programs. The information is demographic-specific and options are presented by categories such as individual, families and small businesses. The site offers a glossary of terms and several different guides designed to lead a consumer through the purchasing and plan evaluation process. These are designed to make the process of finding the best coverage easier, as well as help residents with understanding the often complicated world of health insurance.
Even further, the portal features a section for academics and researchers seeking data on the District’s uninsured population and the city’s coverage expansion initiatives. Those seeking coverage will find other features, such as a list of low-cost health services that are available to residents and a list of agencies and programs that provide health insurance related services.
The website launch is part of the city’s Health Insurance Awareness Month as a partnership between DISB and DOH to raise awareness about access to healthcare and health coverage in the District of Columbia.
