DMH Offers “All Hazards Mental Health Training” to First Responders, Mental and Medical Health Professionals and Clergy

(Washington, DC)  Natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other types of emergencies all produce a range of emotional reactions that must be addressed to ensure individuals are able to recover from the trauma. The DC Department of Mental Health will train National Capitol Region first and second responders, mental and medical health professionals, and members of the clergy to:

  • Understand disaster types, declarations, and mental health services;
  • Review the critical elements related to disaster preparedness, response and recovery;
  • Understand disaster and disaster-related behavior;
  • Understand the cultural considerations and competencies needed in disaster preparedness; and
  • Understand the importance of self care during and emergency or disaster.

Twenty, one-day training dates are scheduled between October 24 and January 22.  More information and online registration is available at www.ivanwalks.com. Under Events, there is a link for “All Hazards Disaster Mental Health Training.”  For further information, please call Ivan Walks and Associates at (202) 463-0510.
