(Washington, DC)  DC Department of Corrections officials report the suicide of a District  inmate on Saturday morning (December 23).

The inmate is described as a 28-year old African American, male.  He was committed to the Department of Corrections, Central Detention Facility (DC Jail) on Tuesday, December 19 after failing to post bond for Operating after Suspension and Driving Without a Permit charges.

The inmate was discovered in his cell (single) located in the Intake Unit of the DC Jail during a routine shift change count. Emergency medical staff and MPD responded to the scene for further processing. 

The last inmate suicide at the Department of Corrections occurred in February of this year.
