(Washington, DC) District residents interested in job opportunities in the building trades are urged to attend the upcoming Jobs in Construction and Career Information Fair, the Department of Employment Services has announced today. The recruitment fair, which will be held at the DC Armory on Friday, April 20, 2007, is sponsored by the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) in collaboration with Clark/Hunt/Smoot, A Joint Venture, the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, the Stadium Project Labor Agreement Task Force, and the Washington, DC Building Trades Council. The fair will be held from 10 am to 2 pm.
Carpenters, masons, electricians, and workers with other building-trades skills looking for work would benefit greatly from this fair, says a sponsor of the day’s event. Additionally, job seekers interested in working at the New Washington National’s Ball Park can apply for available positions, on-site. For attendees interested in gaining more insights on the various industry trades and existing apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs, the career fair would be particularly advantageous. The career fair will feature labor unions and construction industry employers willing to discuss the various levels of working and learning opportunities in their trade. Representatives from various District government agencies will also be on-site to disseminate information on their respective agency’s programs and services.
The career fair seeks both the experienced construction workers as well as entry level workers. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, able to lift 50 lbs or more, and can stand for long periods of time. Applicants should bring a picture ID and be prepared to complete an employment application.
