(Washington, DC) The District’s living wage rate, authorized by the Living Wage Act of 2006, has increased by 3 percent to $12.10 per hour. The Act allows for an annual wage adjustment for residents who work for local employers receiving economic development assistance and funding from the District government. The wage increase is retroactive to January 1, 2008.
All recipients of government contracts or assistance of $100,000 or more are required to pay their employees no less than the living wage authorized by the District. All subcontractors of contracts for $15,000 or more must also pay their employees the living wage.
A living wage is also paid to employees of the District government effective March 1, 2006.
