DC Apprenticeship Council Approves 12 New Apprentice Programs

(Washington, DC) - The DC Department of Employment Services announced today that the DC Apprenticeship Council recently approved and registered twelve new apprenticeship programs. This is the largest number of proposed apprenticeship programs presented and approved at any one Apprenticeship Council meeting.

The twelve contractors collectively committed to hiring thirty DC residents as new apprentices. The new apprenticeship programs, offered in various construction trades, will last from 3 to 4 years, depending on the specific trade areas.

The new approved apprenticeship programs/trade areas and the number of apprentices committed is as followed:

The Department of Employment Services Office of Apprenticeship Information and Training (OAIT) develops new apprenticeship opportunities for District residents; monitors compliance with the District’s mandatory apprenticeship legislation, DC Law 2-156; performs worksite analyses; and provides technical assistance to apprenticeship sponsors.  The DC Apprenticeship Council approves apprenticeship programs in the District of Columbia.  For more information on the new apprenticeship programs, contact lewis.brown@dc.gov.
