Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s 2009 SYEP Participants to Receive First Pay Check

(Washington, DC) - Tomorrow, more than 15,500 participants in Mayor Adrian M. Fenty's 2009 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) will receive payment for attending the program's orientation session.

Only those participants who attended an SYEP orientation session between June 17-19 will receive payroll payments of $36.20 via SYEP-issued VISA Debit paycard. Those who didn’t attend an orientation, but began work on Monday, June 22, will receive their first paycheck on July 15, the program’s payday for the first full pay period. As of today, 21,879 participants have been assigned a job in the program.

“I’d like to thank all of the student and employer participants who have worked so hard during this first pay period,” said Mayor Fenty. “Tomorrow, thousands of students will be rewarded for their participation in SYEP, and the District looks forward to continuing to provide meaningful work experiences for our youth.”

A SYEP call center will be in place tomorrow to assist youth and employers with any payroll questions. Individuals should call 311 or visit www.summerjobs.dc.gov for assistance.
