Retail Store Makes Its Debut in the District of Columbia

(Washington, DC)  The Department of Employment Services is recruiting staff for Bed Bath and Beyond, the household retail company, which will be opening a new store in the District of Columbia at Gallery Place, NW.  The store opening, which is scheduled for February 5, marks the company’s first business presence in the District.

With the new store, employment opportunities abound for District residents who are interested in sales and retail. To assist in staffing the new store, the Department of Employment Services will host a three-day job fair at the Franklin Street One-Stop Career Center, located at 1500 Franklin Street, NW.  Interested job seekers may apply for available positions on the following dates and times:

Wednesday, January 11, 2006
1 pm - 4 pm

Thursday, January 12 and Friday, January 13, 2006
10 am - 2 pm

The store will also host a job fair at the Bed Bath and Beyond at Pentagon Row in Arlington, VA. on Saturday, January 14, from 10 am –  8 pm.

“Needless to say, we are pleased that Bed Bath and Beyond will now operate in the District,” said Gregg Irish, Director of the Department of Employment Services. “We will pre-screen qualified workers who are ready to help this company launch a successful presence in the District.”  The store participated in a DOES sponsored Retail Job Fair Extravaganza last November, which resulted in 25 job offers, of which 23 applicants are currently in training.

The Franklin Street One-Stop Career Center is the largest center and the flagship site of the District’s eight operational One-Stop Centers.  Centers are strategically located throughout the District of Columbia to accommodate residents with their employment needs.  Residents can also access employment and labor market information through the District’s Virtual One Stop (VOS) system at dcnetworks.  For additional information regarding jobs at Bed Bath and Beyond, call (703) 415-2613.
