(Washington, DC) The Department of Employment Services in partnership with CVS Pharmacy will celebrate the Sixth Anniversary and Re-dedication of the South Capitol One-Stop Career Center and CVS Pharmacy Regional Learning Center on Thursday, June 1, 2006. This event will mark a successful six-year, public-private collaboration that has provided employment and training for hundreds of District residents. Anniversary program speakers will include Mayor of the District of Columbia Anthony A. Williams and motivational speaker Stedman Graham. Employees of CVS Pharmacy who have benefited from the program will also share their stories. A reception and community open house will follow the re-dedication ceremony.
Following the reception, Stedman Graham will conduct a workshop for area youth with an interest in exploring career options. The "Teens Can Make It Happen" Workshop helps high schoolers understand how to develop and achieve their life's vision.
The District’s South Capitol Street Center was the first state one-stop center to co-locate with a CVS Regional Learning Center. This successful national model has been duplicated in six other states. The re-dedication ceremony will showcase the need for corporate partnerships that offer jobs and training opportunities for District residents.
