Last Week for District Youth to Register for Summer Jobs
April 30th Deadline

(Washington, DC) District youth, ages 14-21, interested in a summer job are urged to register for the Department of Employment Services (DOES) 2005 Passport to Work Summer Youth Employment Program before the Saturday, April 30, 2005 deadline. Registration will be held at:

Office of Youth Programs

625 H Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday -- 9 am to 4:30 pm

Wednesday -- 9 am to 6 pm

“Summer employment is a critical part of the Mayor’s vision for our youth,” says Gregg Irish, director of DOES.  “Providing them with the exposure of various industries and on-the job experience opens up tremendous opportunities for their future career developments.”

The District’s summer program offers youth temporary employment and training for six full weeks -- July 5 through August 5.  More than 10,000 youth benefit from subsidized employment and job readiness training with employers such as the federal government and local businesses.  While salary is contingent upon many variables such as age, experience, and industry, youth can earn a minimum of $5.15 per hour working 20-30 hours per week.

For additional information, contact the Office of Youth Programs at 202 698-3991.  Visit the Youth Services section of the DOES website to download an application.
