(Washington, DC) – City youth will participate in political panel discussions and several community service projects during the 2004 National Youth Service Day celebration on Saturday, April 17, 2004. The YO! DC Celebrating Service projects and awards program is sponsored by the Department of Employment Services’ Youth Opportunity Program in partnership with the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. and several YO! partners.
The DC Youth Opportunity Program (YO!) assists underserved youth in the District of Columbia to develop the skills necessary to become self-sustaining, self-directed, and employable. An estimated 179 youth will participate in several community service projects – voter registration, distributing food to the homeless and the elderly, reading to children, and more.
