(Washington, DC) The DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) is actively recruiting qualified candidates for the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department’s Basic Paramedic Training Program. The recruitment drive targets District residents who are interested in a career as an Emergency Medical Technician.
The program seeks candidates who are 22 years or older and who have had at least 1,000 hours of patient contact experience through either volunteer opportunities, work study, or internships. Candidates must also have earned a high school diploma or GED certification, and have the aptitude to test at a first year college level. Those with post secondary, high school, education must have a minimum of 12 college credits in courses such as English Comp 1 and College Algebra. Priority is given to applicants who have taken Anatomy and Physiology with a lab. Additionally, applicants must successfully complete an Emergency Medical Technician prep entry exam, attend a personal interview, and submit three professional references, which focus on patient care experience and write a personal statement of 250 - 500 words.
