Turkey Thicket Pool is Open for Lap Swim Only

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has announced that as of this afternoon, Turkey Thicket Pool, 1100 Michigan Ave., NE, is open for lap swim only, due to mechanical difficulties.  DPR apologizes for this inconvenience and is currently working to resolve the issue; repairs are scheduled to be completed by Tuesday, April 8, 2008.

Currently, the water temperature in the pool is 78 degrees. This temperature is conducive for competitive and lap swimming because the cold water promotes a faster heartbeat and heavier breathing.  During swimming lessons and aerobics classes, where constant motion is not required, the water temperature may create an uncomfortable environment for patrons. Water temperature for these activities should be between 83 and 85 degrees.

Other DPR Aquatic facilities remain open and are observing their normally scheduled hours. A list of DPR aquatic facilities and hours of operation is available on DPR's website at dpr.dc.gov, or readers can select from the following link.
