On Thursday, September 18 at 10 am, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh, and DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Director Clark E. Ray, will join the Ward 3 community for a groundbreaking ceremony at Fort Reno Park, 41st and Chesapeake Streets, NW.
DPR will be constructing a competition-quality natural turf baseball diamond, full-size soccer field, and a practice field for soccer, which can also be used as two youth soccer fields. Other project work includes new baseline fencing along Chesapeake Street, NW, improved field amenities including seating and a backstop, and new and improved landscaping, including an irrigation system. The tennis courts and community gardens will remain open during this project.
DPR will outline a timeline for the project and include details on the scope of work. The project consists of $1.2 million in upgrades. Construction is expected to last for 6 months, depending on weather, with the new fields opening once construction is complete and the new natural turf is well-established and healthy enough for regular use. Residents in the area are invited to attend the groundbreaking event.
